Sophmore PAthway

Starting your journey with me in your sophomore year allows time to get to know each other best and the better I know you, the more help I can be in your process. This also gives us time to cover important decisions around class selection and extracurricular involvement. Identifying and aligning to your values earlier will better equip you as you enter into Junior and Senior year with a clear vision. I will work with you over the course of 15 sessions (or more if needed) to make the college process smooth.

After each session, you will leave with some independent tasks to think about before our next session together.

Check out all the Sessions!

You can explore the journey we will take together in a timeline format below. I’ve also listed all 15 sessions individually so you can see how the process builds on itself towards your ultimate goal of identifying the perfect college.

Sessions

  • 1. Getting to Know you

Our first step is to get to know each other. Let’s connect and talk about you! We’ll discuss who you are, your passions, your academic interests, and most importantly, your vision for how I can help guide this process.

  • 2. Values Exercise Review

I will base this session on your Values Exercise results. We will dive into and dissect the meanings and cover some potential surprises from your assessment. This is the foundation for your values based decision making in the future!

  • 3. Extra Curricular Examination

What you do outside of your classes is so important! Colleges are looking for more than just good grades; they want to know you’re well rounded too. We’ll discuss your passions and involvement to explore how to make a great narrative going forward.

  • 4. Selecting Classes for Junior Year

Together we will create a roadmap of your last four semesters of high school classes, with special focus on the upcoming Junior Year.

  • 5. Building the Long List

We will begin the process of crafting your college list. By talking through your values, desires, and expectations we will start to curate a list of colleges for you to further explore.

  • 6. Long List Check in #1

Let’s narrow down your list just a bit. With some individual tasks completed at home, we’ll be able to get to a place where you have 10-20 schools you are excited to explore further.

  • 7. Long List Check In #2

Our goal is to get to 8-12 schools you’re really serious about at this point. Through research, a little bit of legwork, and our knowledge of the colleges and universities you’re interested in, we will be in a great spot!

  • 8. Values Refresh

Time to revisit your values assessment! As they say, you’re “older and wiser” now. We’ll examine any changes and talk about how you feel about the values the assessment has highlighted for you.

  • 9. Selecting Classes for Senior Year

Based on your academic interests and desired majors I will create a winning plan for your last two semesters of high school classes.

  • 10. Building the Short List

You’ve now visited some campuses, you’ve talked to some people, and you have a good idea of which 5-7 (or more!) schools you are serious about applying to. We will discuss your tour experiences and solidify your selections.

  • 11. Early Decision/ Early Action*

For some students, this will be an important component to explore in the overall college decision process. If it is right for you, we will schedule a special session to address this topic in detail.

  • 12. Application Prep

We will work together to create a punch list and game plan to make sure we are aligned on the tasks that need to be completed to get your applications submitted.

  • 13. Application Workshop

I will help you feel confident about the content you are going to highlight in your applications. It’s important to have a narrative weaving throughout your application; I will help you craft this. It’s not just about answering questions, it’s telling a story about you to the admissions staff and application readers.

  • 14. Application Review

Once you have drafted your applications, I will go through it carefully and provide feedback and comments to help refine your message and put your best foot forward.

  • 15. Essay Feedback

Essays need to be authentic and uniquely you. I will help with the obvious work like grammar and edits, but most importantly, we’ll help you craft essays that highlight and speak to your experiences and qualifications so you rise above the crowd.

  • 16. Acceptances Review/ Values Based Decision Making

We are so excited to have arrived with you at the end of this journey. We will take all that we have learned together about you, your values, and your vision to help align you with the best opportunity for you to thrive in the next four years, and beyond!
